Employee Fitness Center Opens |

 Mayor Ron Littlefield marked the official opening of the City’s new Employee Fitness Center on Wednesday, May 16, 2007.
For the last several years, the City of Chattanooga has made a considerable investment and commitment to employees with a wellness program. The program has offered employees the opportunity to know and understand their health through annual health assessments as well as incentives for improvement. In July of last year, the City added two on-site medical clinics to provide primary healthcare to employees and their insured dependents. To date the clinics have scheduled over 10,000 visits. And now, the City is adding yet another element to the program with the opening of our fitness center.
Mayor Littlefield stated, “All employers are addressing the wide-ranging health needs of their workforce while stabilizing and/or reducing insurance premiums and claims costs. We believe that we are in the forefront of this movement and are proud to offer our employees forward-thinking wellness activities in facilities which they will find inviting and first-rate.”
The fitness center is located in the City of Chattanooga Health and Wellness Center. The fitness center boasts 18 pieces of cardio equipment as well as equipment for strength training. Additionally, the Center has a multi-purpose room which will be used for classes offered by the wellness program including exercise and nutrition classes. Employees will have access to on-site trained staff that will be able to help them maximize their fitness activities.
Please join the Mayor as he officially “starts the treadmills” on Wednesday, May 16, 11:30 a.m., at the City of Chattanooga Health and Wellness Center, 274 East 10th Street.
