World Changers Home Repair Week E-mail

Image Mayor Ron Littlefield has publicly recognized the World Changers Program for their volunteer work in Chattanooga. This year marks the fifth year that World Changers has chosen Chattanooga as a recipient city.

World Changers, a ministry of the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist, returned to the city of Chattanooga the week of July 21 through 28, bringing volunteer laborers from all over the country to provide free home repair to qualifying homeowners in low to moderate income neighborhoods.  Projects include painting, roofing, porch repair, and construction of handicap ramps.  “This group of dedicated volunteers provides much needed repair work for many elderly and deserving residents of Chattanooga. We’re privileged to again have over 360 volunteers with World Changers in Chattanooga to help those in need,” said Mayor Ron Littlefield.

In 2006, over 300 World Changers volunteers rehabbed 30 homes for some of our most deserving residents. This year, over 360 volunteer laborers will be in Chattanooga organized in crews consisting of middle school, high school and college students. They are scheduled to perform repairs on 34 project sites. The work is performed by the student volunteers along with supervision from construction professionals and skilled craftsmen.

The Department of Neighborhood Services and Community Development, along with Front Porch Alliance are providing funding for the cost of building materials and related supplies. Brainerd Baptist Church is providing lodging.  Meals and water are being donated by local churches and community groups.
